About LAB Mezz 1 MAX Putters
Posted by Dallas Golf on 09 Dec 2025
It seems like a lot of press is devoted to the performance of new, high-end driver shafts for sale. But you know the old saying - you drive for show and putt for dough.
Not that the accuracy of your drives doesn’t matter (it does) but the fact of the matter is you seal the deal with a good putt. Driving only gets you so far, then your short game cinches the rest.
That’s why putter shafts like the LAB Mezz 1 MAX have made such an impact since they were released. Here’s what you need to know.
The Importance of a Quality Putter Shaft
With a driver shaft, you need performance and elasticity that complement your natural abilities. Players with slower swing speeds tend to need shafts that are more flexible and which produce higher launch and spin profiles, players with faster swings tend to gravitate towards stiffer shafts that produce low, straight drives.
With putters, the paradigm is a little bit different, though the performance of a putter shaft is still paramount to success.
Generally, with a putter shaft, what you need is an extremely stable shaft that offers consistent performance and feedback from putt to putt. Specifically, with respect to putters, what pretty much any golfer should be looking for is an extremely stiff shaft with minimal torque.
These are some of the secrets to the performance of LAB Mezz 1 MAX putters.
The Differences Between the LAB Mezz 1 and Mezz 1 MAX
Before we get into the putter shafts that are commonly paired with the LAB Mezz 1 MAX, let’s take a minute to compare it and the Mezz 1.
The Mezz 1 MAX is 20% larger than the Mezz 1, which helps boost both stability and forgiveness. That said, like the Mezz 1, the Mezz 1 MAX is made with a CNC-machined 303 steel midsection that delivers exceptional feedback and performance.
The body is also CNC machined, but from 6061 aluminum, which lightens the overall putter. This pairing affords the feel and performance of steel without the extra, and is it is, unnecessary, weight.
You get the feedback and performance of steel, without the drawback on off-center shots, because of the fusion with aluminum.
The LAB Mezz 1 MAX Difference

In addition to its unique multi-metal construction, LAB Mezz 1 MAX putters are hand-balanced, and despite the fact that they look like any other winged mallet putter, they’re more consistent and forgiving.
Forget actively trying to keep the putter square with every putt. The Mezz 1 MAX has Lie, Angle, Balance (hence the name, LAB Golf) which automatically squares the clubhead.
LAB Mezz 1 MAX putters are outfitted with one of several Press grips that aid not only in ergonomics, but assist with performance. Most golfers choose the Press II 1.5 Degree grip or the Press Pistol 2 Degree. For golfers with larger hands, one of LAB Golf’s 3-Degree Press Grips might be better.
As far as shafts are concerned, LAB Mezz 1 MAX putters can be outfitted with a number of aftermarket shafts from Accra, BGT and TPT - but they are also compatible with custom steel shafts.
Despite the performance of modern carbon fiber and graphite putter shafts, many golfers still prefer the performance of steel putter shafts.
Steel is heavy, but that makes it solid and consistent. It performs reliably and with remarkable consistency. Also, a great deal of engineering has to go into a graphite putter shaft to ensure that it is stiff and low-torque. That naturally occurs with steel putter shafts.
Steel putter shafts inherently offer a very high degree of stiffness and very low torque, helping to minimize clubhead oscillations as you putt, keeping the head square - something that LAB Mezz 1 MAX putters do anyway.
As if this weren’t attractive enough, many steel putter shafts are much more affordable than their graphite counterparts, which is another compelling selling point.
Of course, what putter shaft is best paired with a LAB Mezz 1 MAX is not just a product of the putter itself, but of your putting style.
