Everything You Wanted to Know About Mitsubishi VANQUISH Shafts

Mitsubishi VANQUISH shafts fall in line with the recent trend toward lighter, thinner shafts that offer consistent performance and better acceleration, for players of all swing speeds.

Marketing hype is one thing. Cold, hard facts, features, and specifications are another. So what is it about Mitsubishi VANQUISH shafts that make them lighter and faster while controlling tolerances?

They Feature Six Core Technological Tenets That Boost Performance

                             Mitsubishi VANQUISH

According to MCA, there are six core technological “tenets” of their VANQUISH shafts that enable mid-high launch and spin profiles through lighter, thinner shaft design that boosts acceleration and clubhead speed.

They are as follows.

1. Amorphous Wire Technology

One of the core tenets of MCA’s VANQUISH shafts is what they call “amorphous wire.” But to understand this, we must know what amorphous wire is.

Amorphous wire is created by quenching motel metal in a unique process that prevents it from developing a crystal structure.

Crystal structure makes metal alloys strong and hard, but brittle. Consequently, since amorphous wire lacks a crystal structure, it is very flexible, very elastic, and very fatigue resistant.

Mitsubishi has worked this amorphous wire technology into the butt section of VANQUISH shafts, making them more elastic. This boosts clubhead speed without adversely impacting shaft stability.

2. Super Low Resin Content Prepreg

Carbon fiber materials are bound together with a resin prepreg material that is necessary for stability and structural integrity - however, resin prepreg adds weight without increasing strength or flexibility.

So, the lower the resin content used, the better (all else being equal).

Mitsubishi has upped the ante with a new Super Low Resin Content Prepreg that contains a little as 20% resin content.

This enhances the relative concentration of carbon fiber in the matrix, lowering weight while raising strength and flexibility at the same time. It also makes the shafts thinner, enabling faster acceleration and higher clubhead speeds.

This Super Low Resin Content Prepreg also enables maximum feel and sensitivity, as it is the carbon fiber, not the resin in the material, that transfers feedback.

3. Full-Length, 46 and 40-Ton Prepreg

Mitsubishi VANQUISH shafts are also made with MCA’s proprietary 46 and 40-ton prepreg material.

These 46 and 40 ton prepregs materials are lighter, thinner, and stronger, and are used in full-length applications across the shaft.

This has enabled MCA’s engineers to create these shafts that exhibit superior strength and lower torque that would not be possible with the use of conventional materials.

In other words, stronger, full-length fibers have culminated in lighter, stiffer, more consistent shafts that offer superior sensitivity and feedback.

4. A Uniquely Fortified Tip Section

Another trick up the proverbial sleeve of VANQUISH shafts is the fact that they are made with a uniquely fortified tip section containing outer layer material arranged and angled in such a fashion that it improves tip stability.

This stiffer tip section is designed to deliver superior strength and stability, in order to diminish clubhead oscillations, resulting in more reliable center clubface contact without making the tip section feel too harsh or stiff.

This feature uniquely optimizes the tip section for forgiveness and consistency, helping to ensure more reliable on-center hits.

5. Consistent Feel Design

Even though Mitsubishi VANQUISH shafts are available in five different shaft flex ratings ranging from regular to tour-spec extra-stiffness, they are all made with what MCA calls “Consistent Feel Design,” resulting in an even “feel” regardless of shaft stiffness rating.

This technological tenet minimizes variances in butt OD as well as weight and balance point across the entire range, for ease of fitting for a wide range of golfers with different needs and skill sets.

This tenet guarantees a similar feel and handling across all shaft flex ratings, delivering consistent performance.

6. Precision Crafted Design

Last but not least, Mitsubishi has created these shafts with what it calls “Precision Crafted Design” that results in extremely tight tolerances for each shaft manufactured, regardless of shaft specifications.

Mitsubishi Chemical’s processes yield extremely tight tolerances of +/- one gram in weight and +/- CPM in frequency. These extremely rigorous tolerances in weight and frequency enable more precise, replicable results for fitters and custom builders.

Mid-High Launch, Mid-Spin Profiles

Even though Mitsubishi VANQUISH shafts are available in several different weights and shaft flex ratings, the entire line is rated to produce mid-high launch profiles and medium spin profiles.

These lighter, thinner shafts result in a lower overall swing weight, encouraging faster acceleration on the downswing, and boosting range through a combination of slightly higher clubhead speeds and launch angles, without relying too heavily on spin for lift - as spin can also exacerbate shot dispersion.

Weight, Flex, and Torque Ratings

This is the ultra-premium lightweight brand, and MCA VANQUISH shafts are super-lightweight across the spectrum, ranging from 60g at the high end in the VANQUISH 5, all the way down to the featherweight VANQUISH 4, at 47g.

They are available in 5 stiffness ratings and torque ranges from 5.4 all the way down to 4.0.

But with VANQUISH shafts, it’s not just about low swing weight. These shafts are thinner, too, enabling much faster swing speeds and acceleration.

For Whom Are Mitsubishi VANQUISH Shafts the Best Option?

These golf shafts are actually suitable for a wide range of golfers. The obvious statement is that these shafts are a likely match for anyone that wants a lighter, more nimble handling golf shaft with a low swing weight that can help boost range.

But there’s more to the picture: because these shafts are so stable, they’re also suitable for players with aggressive swing speeds and tempos. They’re stable enough to handle swing speeds of up to 110 MPH, if not higher.
