Who Doesn't Want 10 More Yards?

Posted by Brady on 16 Mar 2017

This is the first of what will be many "case studies" that we plan to share. Despite how many fittings we do every week at the Dallas Golf Fitting Center, there are still tens of thousands of our customers who don't know the many benefits of working with an experienced clubfitter. By sharing quick summaries and snapshots from actual fitting sessions Dallas Golf will be able to give you a sense of just how much the right equipment can transform your game.

Here is a recent fitting session we did with a customer we'll call JW. JW is 55 years old and a 12 handicap. He came to us looking gain some distance off the tee and on a relatively tight budget. That ruled out a made-to-order new driver. No problem, though.

JW brought in his TaylorMade R15 with the stock graphite shaft. He was averaging 207 total yards with it at a ball speed of 118.7 mph.

JW was satisfied with the R15 head and performed consistently well with it, so we decided to focus on what a different shaft could do for him.

Note in the above graphic that his driver, with the stock shaft, is the top line - indicated in red.

We had JW try three different shafts in his R15 (lines 2, 3, and 4 in the chart above) and eventually settled on the Fujikura 51 Stiff as the winner. The Fujikura 51 Stiff is the bottom line - indicated in yellow. Notice how JW is averaging a total of 217 yards? Notice how the carry distance also went up 10 yards? Spin came down a bit and ball speed went up 2.1 mph, too.

JW walked out the door with a new and improved R15 and 10 extra yards off the tee. Who wouldn't want that?
